Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is the standard of data security of payment cards. It is developed by Council for standards of safety of payment cards (Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, PCI SSC).
Standards are founded by the international payment service providers Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB and Discover.
The PCI DSS standard contains requirements for data protection of holders of cards. It is grouped in twelve thematic sections. The main attention of PCI DSS is paid to safety of network infrastructure and protection of the stored data on holders of payment cards.
Main goal of compliance to requirements of the standard of safety of PCI DSS — improvement of level of security of information infrastructure of the organization. The certificate of conformity is handed after check by the specialized certified auditor (QSA) only in case of full compliance of payment infrastructure of the company to requirements of the PCI DSS standard.
